Specialist Care Home involved in Government national research
Thursday 11 Jun 2009
The Manor House a 102 bed European care specialist dementia care home in oxford has been selected to participate in Government research into the effects of personalised budgets on quality of life in specialist care - in particular dementia.
A working group including members of the senior Manor House team, Age Concern and Community Development workers will working directly with two Brokers, provided through Age Concern, design and assess approaches to person centred care and personalised care delivery aimed at increasing choice, involvement and personal fulfilment.
These will be designed, co-ordinated and delivered at the care home and be monitored and reported upon to Chief County Council directors at the end of a six month period. This will form part of the national assessment process of personalised budgets and will assist in future development of policy.
Head of Dementia Development Paul Smith commented "This is an highly exciting and challenging project and we are delighted to be the partner of choice for such a prestigious and essential assessment process vital for possible future government policy - our management team and staff are eager to get started and we hope to publish the finding independently at the close of the project to assist others who may enter into this innovative type of care in the future. We see brokerage as an important development for the personalisation agenda and we are delighted to be working so closely with both Age Concern and Oxford county Council".
A further project with Age Concern is being developed through our dementia services and will assist with the developing agenda to provide appropriate care for the older gay and lesbian community living with dementia in the community and in care homes.
