Justin's Three Peak Challenge

Tuesday 25 May 2010

A young man takes on three very difficult challenges.

Justin is one of our young people at New Horizon Centre. This young man who is just 15 has decided to take on three challenges and calls it  'Justin's Three Peak Challenge'. The challenges involve conquering Snowden in Wales, Scafell Pike in Cumbria and the grand finale will be Ben Nevis in the Scottish Highlands.

Justin has taken up these challenges in the name of charity and will donate all proceeds to Breast Cancer. The combined height of the three peaks is 3,407 metres, and the aim is to collect £1 for every metre he climbs. He says ''At 15 years of age I have never done anything like this before so the three challenges will be a new experience for me. What makes it harder for me is that I don't like heights!!!!! It will be satisfying to know that every step I take will make a difference to somebody else's life''

Justin's aim is to reach a different peak every month. So on 14 April 2010, he climbed Snowden, the highest mountain in Wales and Great Britain's highest mountain south of the Scottish Highlands.  Justin and Team Daws reached the top of Snowdon at 3.27 pm and were exhilarated to have finished the very first challenge.

About a month later on the 19th of April, Justin and Team Daws completed the second challenge, Scafell Pike, the highest mountain in England which is located in the Lake District National Park in Cumbria. They were overjoyed about finishing the second task, the only disappointment was that it was slightly misty near the top so they were not able appreciate the views properly.

In July, Justin will be going on to conquer Ben Nevis, the highest mountain in the British Isles. It is located at the western end of the Grampian Mountains in the Lochaber area of the Scottish Highlands, close to the town of Fort William.

Justin would like to thank everyone for their kind donations so far. If you would like to find out more about Justin's progress, or would like to donate to this worthy cause please click on the link below:

We would like to congratulate Justin and Team Daws for completing the first two challenges, and wish them best of luck with the next one.
