Located in a residential area of Openshaw, Manchester, Manchester Progressive School opened in September 2009. The school occupies a large detached building which provides a safe and secure co-educational environment for up to 10 boys and girls, aged 8 - 19 years, with Autism, acquired brain injuries and complex needs.
The school provides for local authority pupil referrals where mainstream education has been unsuccessful and resulted in exclusion and disaffection. There is a strong emphasis on preparing students for their future economic well-being and independence. The school has no particular religious affiliation.
Manchester Progressive School Policies and Procedures

Aims & Objectives:
The school's aims are to help children towards a better future by providing the highest quality of education where inclusion, enrichment and progression enable achievement for all children by focusing on their specific and complex needs.
In addition the school aims to provide a caring environment which will enable each individual to develop their full potential
All children are supported on a one to one basis and have their own individual classroom with opportunities to join peers for group work throughout the day. Opportunities for the application of wider skills in a range of community based settings are also provided. These include work experience. The school provides a broad, needs based curriculum alongside meaningful skills training to children who, because of their individual needs are struggling to access regular education provision.
A 24 hour curriculum is also offered for those children accessing our residential services, complimenting a 38 week academic year.
The school follows the National Curriculum and formulates Individual Education Plans for each child. Reviews are held at every six months. The school is staffed with a highly skilled and qualified team of professionals and offers a wide range of educational and therapeutic resources, placing emphasis on the National Curriculum, communication and self directed behaviour strategies for a life long learning programme. We offer a complete educational package at key stages and aim to return pupils to mainstream provision where possible.

Key Staff:
- At school we have learning support assistants, teachers, a Deputy Principal and Principal, supported by ancillary staff.
